STEWARDSHIP EDUCATION ALLIANCE
SUPPORTERS CRUISE ABOARD SCHOONER APPLEDORE
October 2021
Who says supporting a good cause like the Stewardship Education Alliance (S.E.A.) can’t be fun?  Not the forty friends of the S.E.A. who enjoyed a glorious sunset cruise aboard Schooner Appledore on Tuesday, October 5th.Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of Schooner Appledore they raised funds, awareness, and sails, and had fun doing it.  Schooner Appledore provided wine, beer and other drinks, and Blaze, the Camden Deli, French & Brawn Market Place and The Red Barn Market Place and Bakery donated delicious food.  Tickets for the cruise and raffle of 4 pairs of tickets aboard Appledore next season as well as four handsome Appledore tickets raised $3000.00 for S.E.A.
The S.E.A. mission is to increase community awareness of ways to be better stewards of our local watersheds.  This year S.E.A. awarded grants to schools in Appleton, Camden, Hope, Lincolnville, and Rockport for projects, programs, and professional development that  teachers chose to support the mission,. In March, S.E.A. funded four local teachers to attend Herring Gut Learning Center’s course on aquaponics. “It was the best professional development I’ve ever experienced“ enthused two recipients at CRMS.  In addition, S.E.A. funded supplies and plants to start a nature trail at Hope Elementary School, equipment for Night Amphibian Walks at Sweetland School, a salmon study program at Appleton Village School, and Grunden gear so students at PeoplePlace could go outside in any weather. S.E.A. also hosted community events including Poetry on Windows, and S.E.A FAIR.
The Appledore Sunset Cruise was a delight.  The weather was perfect – a glorious sunset painted the skies around Camden Harbor – and so was the company.  The group included educators, scientists, business people, members of the S.E.A. Board and new Advisory Board, as well as newcomers to our area. AND – Schooner Appledore has offered S.E.A. the same opportunity next year – so please join us and enjoy helping to protect our watersheds.
